Disclosure: EPA-estimated 38-mile range based on 98 MPGe (electric); 342-mile range based on 35 MPG city/40 highway (gas). Actual range varies with conditions. Volt owners on average, by charging regularly, are driving 900 miles between fill-ups.
We decided to purchase the Chevrolet Volt after test driving a friend’s Volt. At the time, we were driving a 2005 Subaru Legacy that had more than 100,000 miles on it. After experiencing the Volt, I took a closer look at the amount I was paying in gas every month. Since my daily commute was within the battery’s electric range, the decision to lease the Volt was an easy one for our family. Now, we get to drive a vehicle that is equipped with some of the latest and greatest technologies! My enjoyment for the car is nothing compared to the love my nine-year-old daughter feels for the Volt. She was so excited to receive the Volt book in the mail that I have not even had a chance to look at it yet. After school, instead of asking to watch TV, she reads that book!![]()
Our Volt is so much more than a form of transportation. It has turned into a life lesson that I did not expect. The Volt provides a great opportunity to teach our daughter about the environmental impact of driving electric, as well as the financial savings of not having to buy gas. As a father, sometimes I have a hard time bonding with my daughter over shoe shopping or hairstyles. What we can bond over is our appreciation for the Volt; it gives us something we can both be excited about.
Since we purchased the car in July, 2012, we have driven more than 5,000 all-electric miles and have used less than 15 gallons of gas. Owning a Volt has been a truly great and rewarding experience!
