Love this car! Every day I look forward to driving it and make a game of seeing how much battery I have when I get home. But I'm also the first to admit it's great fun to leave the stop light in sport mode and show off a little. Recently took an extended trip to Portland, Maine and after 43 miles in charge depleting mode it seamlessly slipped into charge sustaining mode. Imagine my surprise when I first stopped to fill up. Calculated mileage, 43.4 mpg and over the entire 1400 miles to a from I maintained better than 43 mpg. Mostly highway with the cruise set at 68 mph.
My friends and associates love the car and I enjoy talking about it. Just last night one of my friends was so excited when he discovered I drove a Volt that he practically begged me for a ride. Every person I've let ride or drive the car has had very positive comments and can't believe it "drives like a normal car" and that it has as much power as it does.
So far 7300 miles and just over 2 tanks of gas.

What impressed me most during my Volt test drive was the smooth, silent and instantaneous response you get when you step on the "gas". After close to 20,000 miles on the Volt, you get used to ignoring the price of gas. What never fails to impress me now is the handling of the car when you enter an exit ramp on an expressway. The batteries create a low center of gravity that results in almost no lean. And the seats do a great job of keeping you comfortable in the corners. The car also is a great long distance cruiser. I often drive from Baltimore to Chicago to visit relatives. I start the trip in Mountain mode and leave there until I reach the Illinois state line. The Volt rides like a dream on the Maryland, Ohio, and Indiana portions of the trip. The handling is great in the mountains of Pennsylvania, and there a reasonable amount of reserve passing power over the steep grades on the Turnpike. Especially when you consider that your driving a 3,800 lb 4 door with a 1.4 liter engine and getting close to 40 mpg. It's also one of the few times that you can actually hear the gas engine running.
My "other" car is a 2005 GMC 4WD I6 Envoy XUV. It's great in the winter and when you need to haul a lot of "stuff" on a trip, but the contrast on the road is striking. If you need passing power you step on the gas, the engine revs, the transmission shifts and then the Envoy begins to accelerate. With the Volt, it's just press and go. Immediate response and no drama. Also, on long trips you stop for gas about as often, but at 18 MPG, filling the tank takes longer.
I bought a Honda Insight in 2000 when gas was around $1.25. Skeptics wrote articles about the Prius at that time. They said gas prices would have to rise to $1.45 a gallon before hybrids would be cost efficient. Today gas is dropping to near $3.25 and that's considered good news. The 1800 lb Insight is a great car. It has 174,000 miles on it and is on its second battery, the first one replaced under warranty. But in the mountains of PA the 1 liter engine can reach 70 MPH only in second gear redlined at 6200 RPM. Driving the Insight on the Interstate can be a hassle. The Volt, under the same conditions, is a delight.
If you believe that gas prices will stay below $4 to $5/gal for the next 5 to 10 years and that all these storms and heat are just a statistical bump in the road, then the Volt technology probably isn't worth the price. If you like the sporty handling and cruising comfort of an Audi, BMW or Lexus, and don't really need to cover a quarter mile at 90 mph in under 15 seconds, then consider a Volt. Take a test drive, the results just might surprise you. The car is well equipped with most options, very comfortable for my 6'4" frame, nice styling, and comparatively priced. Driving past gas stations and almost never having to say "the tank is low", is priceless.

I've owned Mercedes, BMW and many other luxury brands. In my opinion, the Volt is comparable to most and better than some. I love everything about it and am especially proud that it's American! I have the option to use gasoline if I wish -- or not. The ride is especially impressive and the stone quietness is a delight. To those who may say "this is not the future"; I say, it is for me! Thanks Chevrolet!

the chevrolet volt is a really good driving machine, and it is fun to drive. the handling is outstanding; the volt is great on turns and through curves. power delivery is smooth as silk, which i attribute to a combination of the voltec propulsion system and the planetary gearset; so you don't get the feeling of jerkiness that you can get when some car shift out of first gear.
i normally drive in normal mode and perceive the acceleration to be fairly linear. acceleration in sport mode is quite impressive, and you do indeed feel pushed back against the seat; although if you want to drive in sport mode on a regular basis i find that you have to drive with a fairly light foot because the sport mode pedal map appears to be somewhat aggressive (the acceleration still seems linear but with a somewhat steeper slope).

Since purchasing my Volt in my I've only filled it up once and that's the date I bought it. Needless to say I still have that fuel still in my car. For two months I've on used electric. Wonderful! I could'nt be more happier. I would estimate I could possibly get 200 miles to the gallon by the end of July. Not to mention I answer questions about the Volt every time I drive which makes me feel special.o This car is the best car I've owned since driving. I'm proud to own my Volt!

I was impressed with the Sport mode of the Volt. The acceleration and handling characteristics are excellent with the bonus of doing it while virtually silent. It's great to have the performance when you need it or just when you know your not going too far and can have some fun with it.
