First European Retail Chevrolet Volt Owner Takes Delivery

Emanuel_Probst_Volt1Emanuel Probst is an entrepreneur with a passion for coffee and American cars. He’s also the owner of the first retail Chevrolet Volt in Europe.

Probst received his Volt last week and calls it the best solution in the world right now for worry-free electric driving. He likes the idea of not having to calculate how far he can go on a single charge thanks to the Volt’s range-extender.

He saw a pre-production Volt at last year's Geneva Motor Show and was impressed by its great attention to detail, use of high-quality materials and outstanding specification. That’s when he knew he had to have one. After a little convincing at his local Chevrolet dealer he was rewarded with a trial demonstration unit. Emanuel says he almost immediately put in his order for a Volt.

Emanuel plans on using the Volt as a commuter car and for business, using charging stations at his company’s global headquarters and at his home. But he can't wait to share it with those he works with and plans to encourage employees and friends to embrace Volt and the electric vehicle culture.

I haven't had to stop at a gas station since I bought my Volt. I am over 3000 miles and I still have half of the tank of gas that the dealer filled when I purchased the car.

It is easy for those us who are Volt owners to preach to the choir but, as Rich Lowry's recent nationally syndicated column reveals, there are many Obama haters who relish transference of that hate, and attack everything about the Volt with a degree of viciousness and negativity heretofore reserved for the likes of, say, cable companies. I personally responded to Lowry's Mar. 20 diatribe on the Volt, entitled "Obama's Edsel...", by writing a letter to the editor of a SC daily; my letter probably won't get published, but I am not giving up. While I derive tremendous satisfaction from driving blissfully by $4 gas signs, the struggle for oil independence and renewable energy is above all a political fight, thanks to the likes of Lowry, Limbaugh, et al. For the Volt to become more than just a cult vehicle we owners must also embrace the vehicle of activism.

We have 16,000 miles on our Volt and love every one of them. Best car ever!

Here's a marketing idea: Show two attractive young people looking admiringly at each other leaning on the car with the caption "We want a smooth, quiet ride--Chevy Volt". You could add, truthfully, "Most loved car in America".

Greetings to all the new Volt owners, welcome. I'm a volt owner and love every driving minute.
Traded in my Prius, no comparison between the 2 cars. I have no doubt Volt/Ampera will will be the car of the future for some time to come...take care and enjoy the ride...

Hi there,

ordered my volt 5 months ago. Haven't got a shipping date right now.

As ony lucky guy got his Volt right now seems to be some hope for me to get one too. Would like to drive my Volt before retirement (at least 30 years to go),

So - Chevrolet - hurry up!

Cheers

@Alex. Why would you think that the highest tech vehicle on the planet should be the cheapest? If your on some sort of welfare, there are lots of cars you can buy that get double digit gas mileage, just not triple.

Welcome to the Volt club of happy drivers! Some of us on this side of the pond also have difficulty in following GMs thinking in marketing the Volt here in the USA. Perhaps in Europe they too will find out what a really great car the Volt and the Ampera are with ever higher petrol prices with each passing month.

That's a nice story. However, I tried this year the Opel Ampera (and last year the Volt) at the Geneva Motor Show, and I can say that, compared to some full electric vehicles, there are some gaps in your "high-quality" materials and outstanding specification. I particularly talk about the cover made to hide the separation between the trunk and the rear places. It really seems like something designed quickly to repair a misconception, as it seems engineers/designers never thought originally than when you brake, luggages or anything else stored are pushed to the front of the car. Also, I do not understand the strategy of General Motors in Europe, and Switzerland where I live, having two almost similar cars under two different brands, and at different prices, where Opel price point is 2'500.- CHF higher. You really came with a technology, the range extender, that is an excellent one as not all people can afford a full electric vehicle, for lots of reason. However, seems you (GM) missed a great opportunity to fill the world with it - especially due to the high price point. Think about Renault and thenfact they rent batteries: this could avoid the question on what to do when I'll have to change them... (considering I drive at least 40'000 km per year). I'm still a big American Cars fan, loving Chevrolet for its Swiss history, but I'll need to be convinced again that Volt/Ampera is really car of the year 2012 / car of the future years.
