Safety Training for First Responders

NFPA1_thumb200_120Safety is of the utmost importance when first responders arrive at the scene, for both them and the people they are assisting. That’s why it’s crucial they get the knowledge and training they need to save lives on the next generation of electric vehicles like the Chevrolet Volt.

Don Scott is a Jake Sweeney Chevrolet Sales Consultant in Ohio and helps lead a team that goes to area fire departments to provide first responders  safety training on the Volt. He has also worked as a firefighter and EMT and knows the importance of proper technique when it comes to new technology. He and his team know that watching a training video is good, but actually providing hands-on simulations and examples is something completely different. You can learn about the work he is doing by visiting this link.

Chevrolet and GM have been working with the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) to train first responders across the country on proper techniques on dealing with emergency situations involving electric vehicles. You can view a video on this below.

So, ya'll got the Volt, we have the Opel Ampera, same thing. Who has a Powerpoint available on what safety measures to take with this specific type of car? This is for a first introduction for 6 Volunteer Fire teams in the Southern part of the Netherlands. Off course GM offers some information overhere, but in the USA this automobile is more common allready, and you have more experience with this vehicle.

Thanks from across the atlantic. Erik Romanesco Training officer Brandweer Midden en West Brabant, the Netherlands.

Not gonna lie: It hurt to see that Volt being torn apart like that, though I suppose the ultimate goal of saving lives is paramount to being gentle with cold, uncaring technology?

Still, what a painful sight!

I am helping with some Volt training for volunteer fire fighters at my dealer in Hattiesburg, MS. I have the first responder guides and quick reference guides from gmstc.com, and I found a powerpoint training presentation on the web that was done by the Montgomery County, Maryland Fire Dept tha looks pretty good. Can you suggest any other videos or training materials that I can use?

Thanks, Don Mills 6016139803
