Thousands of vehicle enthusiasts and classic car owners are flocking to Metro Detroit this week for the annual Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise. The cruise is held annually on the third Saturday of August in Metropolitan Detroit. Instead of a long parade of classic cars roaring down Woodward they watched as a silent legion of Chevrolet Volts drove by as part of a Chevrolet Volt Homecoming and the Chevrolet Centennial Parade.
More than 60 Volts took part in the event. They began the day at the Radisson hotel in West Bloomfield Hills for a breakfast and welcome from Volt Marketing Director Cristi Landy. After a few hours of meeting and talking about their experience with the Volt, the owners received a special treat: a visit from NASCAR drivers and fellow Volt owners Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson.
After that, the legion of Volts took to the street. Hundreds of people turned out to wave and cheer for the electric vehicles and their drivers. One of the more amusing cheers heard by an onlooker, who was clearly amused by how quiet the cars are, was the classic “I can’t hear you!” Another woman walking by couldn’t believe it when she asked how one of the drivers fueled his car by just plugging it into his garage. She responded “I’ll HAVE to get one of those! Good job Chevy!”
Below are some of our favorite pictures of the day. We’d like to thank everyone for coming out and making the event a success as well as those of you who couldn’t make out today for all you do in supporting Chevrolet and the Volt.
